Inauguration Day

So today was a very important day in history, a wonderful leader was ushered into their new post in American lives: Me. Today was my first day of work at my new job! Thankfully there was no serious snow to delay my start date, but I did dodge some flakes walking to my car. I had trouble sleeping last night because I was so nervous- I had laid out my outfit and scott put together a bagged lunch(complete with a encouraging note), so I was all set. Luckily, I did not oversleep for my first day, which is a re-occuring nightmare of mine, and Scott went out at 7 am in the 15 degree weather to warm up my car. Needless to say, I got to work 2o minutes early, before anyone else was even there.
I got settled into my rather large office and got acquainted with my two new computers and was encouraged to raid the supply closet. I was introduced to everyone in the office, and the surrounding offices, and was even graced by a visit from the dean of students. My main task is to organize an alternative spring break trip - a community service based option for students to participate in over their week long spring break. The trip has been chosen as a trip to springer's mountain (the beginning of the Appalachian Trail) where students will be doing trail maintenance and restoring shelters. This is of course perfect for me with my time spent on the Appalachian Trail the past couple summers. While I normally get off work at 4:30, one of the student groups that I advise had a meeting at 5 pm, so I stayed and went to the meeting to introduce myself. I finally got home at 6 pm to a hot and ready pizza for dinner.

Scott had an exciting interview in Nashville today. The job was for a security company which turned out to be THE security company for Nashville. He had to get through 2 different security gates (lined with barb wire), then was asked to go through an air lock chamber, and then had to introduce himself to several policeman standing behind bullet proof glass before being ushered to his interview (needless to say I will not be visiting him at work if he gets the job). He finds out sometime next week about the position.

All in all it was a very exciting day,

Alexandra
