Gardening has begun!

Today is February 23. It is 73 degrees outside. TIME TO GARDEN! I started my tomato plant seedlings in Decemeber, also some chives, and oregano :) Yesterday we started our hydro- container gardening as my tomato seedlings had outgrown their seedling space and roots were growing out of their newspaper homes. I just started my seedlings for summer squash, peppers, spinach, and planted my bulbs for strawberries and my one year old aspargus bulbs. Shockingly, I have not started my basil at all. Kelty was soo excited as she recognizes the container gardens because that means we will be outside all the time now. My next plan is to rig up our rain barrel, as soon as I can find a clean cheap 50 gallon barrel. And then I need to get this rain barrel diverted system as well. Our spigot is placed for someone who is wanting to wash cars, not grow a farm on their back patio.
I am also going to start composting based on this project that I found - it sounds easy enough.. more on it later!
So basically, this is how you know you are getting older... when the weather turns warmer, I have no desire to drive to Florida for spring break - my mindset turns to this:
